A 39-year-old driver suffered a spectacular accident when he missed the bend on a bridge and plunged down a barranco.
The accident occurred yesterday on the bridge just below the entrance to Hotel Salobreña (Best Hotels) at around 21.00h.
He was heading down from the said junction but must have been going too fast for the bridge bend. His car hit the railings just where the crash barrier starts and careened down the side of this steep gulley between the N-340 and the loop of the old road.
Despite the car turning over several times during the 15 metre plunge down the gulley, the driver got off with little more than scratches. He was breathalysed but gave a negative reading, so it is thought that he either nodded off or was distracted by something within the car.
