Civil Guard have arrested a man who forced the locks of five vehicles in the parking lot at Papagayo beach.
Civil Guard, Yaiza arrested a Spanish National, named only by his initials, on the 21st of August.
The accused had previous convictions for similar offences.
The would-be robber forced five rental cars all of the same make and model, a Fiat Panda. According to La Voz de lanzarote, this is a model that has been repeatedly been broken into in thefts in other areas, because they are apparently easier to open than other vehicles.
The arrest happened at 6.30 pm, after agents received a call from a member of the public who observed a man wandering around several vehicles parked in the area with the supposed intention of stealing valuables from the cars.
Guardia Civil said in a statement, "thanks to the collaboration of citizens and the presence of agents in the area, we were able to locate and immediately stop the perpetrator. During the arrest no objects were recovered, according to victims, since the accused had no chance to remove any valuables". The detainee was sent to court in Arrecife.
