The Ministry of Health of the Canarian Government are in the process of creating new health cards for users of the Canarian Health Service it was announced on Tuesday.
This Canarian health card allows citizens access to public health care and pharmaceutical services. At present, at least 25% of users of the SCS do not have a physical plastic health card, instead they were issued with a document on paper which is equally valid when registering membership numbers, however it appears that these are causing problems in use for the pharmaceutical benefits and when patients travel to other Autonomous Communities.
The process of replacing the current cards will be carried out gradually, starting in November, and must be completed, according to the Official Canarian Boletin, before October 5th, 2018, if budgetary resources permit.
It is forecast that in November that the printing of approximately two million health cards will have been completed and will then be ready for dispatch.
The new health card will not contain personal identification data, but an identification code assigned to each user by the SCS, two printed codes, a security code and a bar code with the conversion of the autonomic CIP code. In addition, a CSV (Card Security Value) reference number will be used akin to the numbers which appear on bank cards- a unique three-digit number for each card. This number is a new addition to protect card-holders by certifying that they have in their possession the correct card when carrying out transactions.
