Ecologistas en Acción has complained about the massive influx of tourists on Sierra Nevada, endangering the fauna and flora.
The two peaks, Veleta and Mulhacén, owing to their easy access in the summer, are crammed with hikers, especially on weekends with groups led by guides crossing paths on Los Borreguiles.
Other areas under pressure are los Lagunillos de la Virgen, Zona de las Yeguas and Los Lavaderos de la Reina, as soon as the thaw begins in earnest.
For this reason the ecologist group calls upon the administration that manages the natural park to take this problem seriously before this Espacio Protegido loses its raisons d’etre.
They concluded that there are areas with much less ecological value than the Sierra Nevada which already have access restrictions in place.
