Lifeguards on Playa de Velilla in Almuñécar saved the life of an elderly gentleman some 60 metres off the beach on Friday.
The lifeguards on duty noticed that the man was having difficulty swimming so they took to the water to assist him. They were accompanied by the team’s boat, which actually brought him back to the beach.
“He was very tired, almost exhausted and semiconscious,” explained one of them.
To be on the safe side an ambulance was waiting to take the 74-year-old victim to the medical centre, as protocol in these circumstances dictates.
Enhorabuena, los señores socorristas!
