The present and previous mayors of Nerja will have to appear before the judge over the sewage water being pumped into the sea.
Mayor Rosa Arrabal (PSOE) and the Mayor between 1995 and 2015, José Alberto Armijo (PP), as well as six councillors, are due to declare before the magistrate at the Torrox law courts, Judge Laura Crossa Gil, starting with the ex-Mayor on the 26th of May.
Following this appearance will be the Councillor for Infrastructure under the Armijo administration, José Alberto Tomé (PP) the present day councillor of that area, José María Rivas (PSOE).
To cut a long story short, the others cited to declare are: (PP) Mari Nieves Atencia and José Miguel Jimena; the Councillor for the Environment, Jorge Bravo (IU); and Mayor, Rosa Arrabal (PSOE). Finally, amongst those politicians is the Councillor for Beaches between 2007 and 2011, Jonathan Méndez (PP).
But it is not only politicians because the successive Heads of the area Water Board (Aguas de Narixa), Enrique Silva and Juan Ángel Poyatos, are also going to appear before the magistrate.
These people have been investigated within police-operation Vastum, thanks to a ‘denuncia‘ lodged by the Ecologistas en Acción before the Environmental Unit of the Guardia Civil (Seprona).
The ecologist group considers that fraud has been committed since 2011 following the introduction of the regional law, Aguas de Andalucía, which authorised a special tax (canon) to be levied on domestic water bills for the treatment of sewage, despite a complete absence of the necessary installations for such sewage treatment.
